Lessons

We offer a variety of lessons at a variety of levels during term time on most days of the week, as well as open practices where you can ask more experienced members of the society for help and consolidate what you have learnt in class. if you're unsure of which lesson or level to join, please read on, or to find out when the lessons are, please see the lesson timetable.

Beginners 

This class starts from the very basics of all of the Ballroom and Latin American dances, building short routines and introducing very basic technique, perfect if you're new to the world of ballroom.

Advanced Beginners

Similar to tbe beginner classes, advanced beginners starts from the very basics, moving at a faster pace and incorporating more technique. This class is recommended for those who wish to join the beginners team and dance competitively.

Silver/Gold 

This class is for those who have some experience in Ballroom and Latin American dancing, preferably having taken the bronze medal test, or with at least one year's experience. If you wish to learn more advanced routines and take your silver and gold medal exams then this is the class for you.

Intermediate

This is the highest level we offer for group lessons and is suitable for anyone above gold medal standard, or who has been dancing for more than two years and wishes to learn open steps and competitive routines for the open dances.

Beginners Competition

If you wish to compete as a beginner for the University of Birmingham, then this is the class to learn beginner standard competition routines and familiarise yourself with the competition environment and the University dancesport syllabus.  

Novice Competition

If you wish to compete for the University at Novice level then this is the class for you to learn novice standard routines and technique. 

Technique

Open to all abilities, this class is the perfect way to practice your technique to improve your standard of dancing and is highly recommended for anyone wishing to dance competitively. 

Rock 'n' Roll 

This is an upbeat, lively class based around the 1950s dance style and starts from the very basics, providing you with fun, non-acro routines suitable for social or competitive dancing. 

Acro Rock 'n' Roll

This is an advanced rock 'n' roll class which focuses primarily on lift work. 

Argentine Tango

Brand new for this year, this is an all ability class based on the highly popular style of Argentine Tango, an intricate and personable variation of the traditional ballroom tango.

Competition Practice/General Dancing

Led by society members, these unstructured sessions offer a more relaxed way to practice your dancing (with or without a partner) and meet members of the society from different classes and abilities. If you have missed your regular class, open practices offer a good opportunity for you to recap what you missed.
